One session of twice-normal volume is a news day. Three of them in a month, in a stock that is holding above its 50-day average, is somebody building a position in instalments. Counting the spikes instead of asking for one today lets the scan find the pattern between its loud days, when the stock is quieter and the entry is cheaper. `count` is the form that makes the question askable at all. `has been above … for` would demand heavy volume every single day, which is a different and much rarer thing.
